Complementary elements
Band clamp for steel coils
At SAIZAR, we integrate this system, known as a coil band clamp, into a rotating turret. It is a complementary element designed for the final stage of the slitting line process, when operations require working on a rotating turret to perform circumferential strapping in that position.Â
In practice, a band clamp helps keep the material under control during handling and coil processing. This type of equipment is used to prevent the strip ends from loosening and to reduce the risk of damage to the material during handling.
By securing the strip ends and providing specific slots for strap passage, automatic strapping can then be carried out, without releasing the band clamp until all planned strapping cycles have been completed.
How we design this system at SAIZAR
We design the band clamp as an integrated piece of equipment within the installation, rather than as a standalone element. It is configured based on how the coils are positioned during the strapping process, the type of rotating turret, and the layout of nearby equipment such as the slitting line carriage. At the same time, the automatic strapping machine is designed to operate in these conditions, carrying out the full process of coil clamping and strapping automatically.
Integration of Rotating Turret
The coil band clamp can be adapted to any type of configuration, coil dimensions, rotating turret design, and different strapping position requirements.
Clamping and Control of the Strip End
In these applications, the objective of the system is to keep all strap ends under control while the coil remains in the working position. To achieve this, the customer must have a shear in the slitting line, ensuring that all strap ends are collected in a single position.
The band clamp features multiple locking points where the strap ends are secured, while leaving the necessary space for strap passage.
Adaptation to the Strapping Process
The band clamp is designed in coordination with the automatic strapping machine itself. For this purpose, information about the rotating turret, the slitting line carriage, and the different coil specifications is required.
Typical Features of This System:
- Integration as a complementary element within the steel coil strapping process.
- Specific application on rotating turrets.
- Coordination with the strapping machine and carriage.
- Design adapted to line requirements and coil working position.
Typical Applications
This system is particularly well suited for slit coils, where circumferential strapping is performed with the coils positioned within the arm of the rotating turret, or in configurations where material control during handling is critical to process stability.
With this system, all strap ends are securely held before and during the strapping process, and only released once all strapping operations have been completed.
Benefits on the Production Floor
Integrating the band clamp into the line helps the coil to be handled in a more controlled and consistent condition during the strapping process. When the system is correctly sized, it contributes to a more stable strapping station operation and improved material management on the coil.
Typical benefits of this solution:
- Better control of the strap during handling and processing.
- Greater consistency between coil position and the strapping station.
- Increased productivity by freeing up the slitting line and unloading carriage.
- A solution adapted to the rotating turret and overall plant layout.

What We Need to Prepare a Proposal
To correctly define this system, we need to know the coil dimensions, the carriage characteristics, the rotating turret specifications, and the working cycle of the different machines. Among other things, SAIZAR requests information about the coil, including inner diameter, outer diameter, width, strap thickness, number of coils placed, coil positioning on the arm, productivity, and available space.
It is also important to understand how the other machines in the line are configured and how they interact within the process.Â
Typical information required to prepare a quotation:
- Coil type and main dimensions.
- Coil position on the rotating turret arm.
- Layout drawings of the rotating turret and carriage.
- Available space.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What exactly is a band clamp?
It is a complementary system for slitting lines that helps keep the material secured prior to strapping operations. This equipment is installed on the rotating turret and must be synchronised with other systems such as the carriage and the automatic strapping machine.
In what types of applications do you integrate it?
Mainly in slit coil applications, at the exit of the slitting line and prior to circumferential strapping operations.
Is this system separate or part of the line?
We design it as a complementary element within the slitting line exit section for the strapping process.
Can it be integrated when the coil is on a rotating turret?
Yes, it is primarily designed to be installed on a rotating turret.
What type of locking points does the band clamp include?
The locking points are designed based on coil widths, the space required for strap passage, and the different coil combinations that may be positioned on the turret arm. There are slotted and liftable locking points, both allowing strap passage.
What information do you need to define the solution?

Coil type, dimensions, coil working position, strapping width, and layout drawings of the carriage and rotating turret.
What does it provide compared to a station without this system?
It provides a more controlled working condition over the strap and improves integration between coil handling and the strapping station. Without this solution, the operator would need to perform strapping either on the slitting line itself or with the coils positioned on the carriage, slowing down the customer’s production process.
Do you offer integrated projects and technical support?
Yes, SAIZAR designs these systems as part of complete circumferential coil strapping solutions and provides technical service and spare parts support for its projects.
