Packaging lines

Bar bundles

If you work with bar bundles (round, square, rectangular, or irregular profiles), you know that packaging defines two things: transport safety and plant productivity.

At SAIZAR, we design packaging lines to form, compact, strap, and prepare packages for shipment, integrating with your production line and internal logistics flows (conveyors, carts, cranes, etc).

What does a Packaging line for bar bundles include

A line can incorporate different stations and automated systems depending on your product, production rate and package removal method. In this kind of projects, it is common to combine:

Package forming system (with counting)

When the material arrives individually (bar by bar), the forming process guarantees the geometry of the package and the count depending on the target package. We can form round, hexagonal, square or rectangular packages, adapting to the type of section and the customer’s needs.

Pre-strapping compacting system

To stabilise the package before strapping, we incorporate compaction that keeps the package in shape during the strapping process. The solution can be hydraulic or pneumatic, and can include protective elements to prevent marking and damage to the material. In hydraulic compaction, force ranges are considered depending on the characteristics of the product.

Transverse strapping stations

For this type of products, the transverse strapping is carried out with a fixed configuration or with displacement to cover different strapping positions.

Additionally depending on the Package and the fastening objective, the station can work with steel or polyester strap and define the type of sealing (e.g. slotting/linker/TIG in steel or friction-vibration in polyester)

In case of using the steel strap, depending the characteristics of the bar bundles, the appropriate sealing option is selected

Product protection: cardboard, corner protectors, blocks/slats and rings

To avoid marks and improve the presentation of the package, we can automate the insertion of:

  • Perimeter cardboard (covers the entire contour in the strapping position, price upon completion of strapping).
  • Corner protectors (placed on the edges of the package where the straps are applied).
  • Wooden blocks/slats with or without slots for strap passage, automatically fed through urpose-adapted magazines  (with capacities of up to 100units dependingon requirements).
  • Rings for subsequent crane handling (according to your operating process) inserted during the strapping cycle and positioned on the top of the package.

Automatic labelling and traceability

We can integrate automatic labelling with data printing (characteristics, dates, QR, barcode, etc.) and placement on the product or plate (plastic/metal/ceramic), prepared so that the strappasses through the slots and is fixed together with the strapping.

Integrated weighing (control y quality)

Weighing systems are integrategrated into trolleys, tables, conveyors or lifts to control the package weight and strengthen quality control and traceability, sending the information both to the customer’s PC and to the labelling equipment.

Transport and transfer between stations

To move heavy packages in a balanced and synchronized manner, the line can incorporate:

  • Chain conveyors (metal, vulcanised, etc.), with intermediate stations for production processes.
  • Roller conveyors (metal, rubber-coated, etc.), with intermediate stations for production processes.

Benefits in Production quality and safety

More stable packages:
formed + compacted reduces openings and misalignments during subsequent handling

Increased productivity:
transport automation, positioning, strapping & packaging and material removal

Reduction of product damage:
introduction of cardboard/corner protectors/blocks/slats that protect the product from strapping

Real traceability:
label + weighing for control and dispatch

Flexibility:
transverse strapping, fixed or moving strapping stations, and choice of strapping and sealing according to the product

Common configurations (depending on your process)

These are typical design decisions that we define:

  • Is the Package centered or aligned on one side?
  • Evacuation by conveyor, cart, elevator or crane?
  • Fixed or mobile strapping machine?
  • Do you require laminating, weighing, labelling or compacting within the line?

In order to accurately size the solution, we will typically ask you for:

  • Product to be strapped, weight and maximum temperature of the Package.
  • Max./ min. dimensions of the package: Width (A), Height(B), Length(C), Diameter(D), Flat part(A1)
  • Bar size and type of package (shape / composition)
  • Productivity (packages/hour)
  • Transport to station: cart/conveyor/rollers/chains/elevator/crane
  • Transport position (A/B) and number of straps per Package..
  • Type of strap (steel o polyester), width/thickness and sealing type required.
  • If you want to introduce rings, labels, blocks, corner protectors or cardboards into the strapping station.
  • Available space + photos of the area and package to refine the engineering.

We offer turnkey projects and technical support, including mantenance and spare parts so that the line can operate continuously without production stops.

Typical sectors and applications

These lines are commonly used in:

Steel industry and steel processing (service centers, cutting, straightening)

Manufacture and distribution of corrugated bars, calibrated bars, and  long profiles

Plants shipped by truck, train, or stored outdoors, where the package must “arrive in perfect condition”

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a strapping machine and a packaging line?

A strapping machine is strapping station. A packing line integrates the entire flow: transport, forming, compacting, strapping, labeling/weighing and evacuation.

Yes, a fixed strapping machine with package displacement or solutions where the strapping machine moves to the different strapping positions can be considered.

Yes, we automate the insertion of perimeter cardboard, corner protectors, and blocks/strips with or without slots so that the strap can pass through.

Formed with movable side arms, performing preliminary compaction and keeping the assembly stable during the strapping process.

Yes, weighing can be integrated into different equipment, and labeling can be attached to the package using a plate or a label with slots for the strap to pass through.

Depending on strap and standard: notching/linking/TIG on steel and friction-vibration on polyester. It will depend on the package format and dimensions.

It depends on weight, geometry, temperature, rate, and how you evacuate the package. We define it based on your process data (including productivity and evacuation method).

Yes, is a typical system when the customer removes the package with a crane and needs to insert rings during strapping.

Yes, we work on turnkey projects and provide technical assistance and spare parts.
