Packaging lines
Sheet coils
A steel coil packaging & strapping line is a set of stations that work in coordination to move, package, strap, and secure the coil before shipment or storage.
In the industry, these types of lines are implemented to protect the coil from damage during handling, as well as from Environmental exposure, and to increase packaging consistency with less manual intervention.
How we design your line in SAIZAR
At SAIZAR, we design and supply turnkey projects, tailoring the design to the product requirements and the actual circumstances of your plant.
To ensure that the line fits perfectly the first time, we work with you to assess critical variables such as productivity, internal logistics, transport position, available space, and the type of strapping required.
Common stations and modules in a coil line
The lines are designed in a modular way, combining stations according to your process (evacuation, packaging, traceability and shipping).
Coil transport and positioning
We can integrate different means of transport to the strapping station (depending on your layout): conveyor cart, roller/chain conveyors, movile beam, etc.
The conveyors or carts are synchronized with the rest of the line to move the product correctly and safely, adapting the type of conveyor or cart and configuration to the weight and geometry of the coil.
Strapping station (circmferential, radial or combined)
For coils, strapping is usually defined as:
- Circumferencial
- Radial
- Circumferential + radial (combineed)
At SAIZAR, we strap coils with steel or polyester (PET) strap and in typical industrial widths of 16/19/25/32nn, depending on the application
In addition, it is common practice in the market to use radial strapping through the eye as reinforcement for transport/storage, combined with circumferential strapping when the objective is maximum stability.
Pre-strapping fastening /security (clamps and synchronizers)
On cutting lines where the coil arrives at a rotating turret, a clamp can hold the strip ends in place before completing the circumferential strapping.. It is designed not to interfere with other clamps and is synchronized with the movements of the carriage/rotating turret.
Weighing and traceability (automatic labeling)
If you need traceability, we can integrate:
- Weighing systems that can be integrated into carts, tables, conveyors or elevators; the weight can be displayed and transmitted to the customer’s PC and even sent to the label printer for printing.
- Automatic labeling, with options for paper or plastic/metal/ceramic labels, including product data, date, QR codes, barcodes, etc.
Lamination/protective wrapping
When the objective is surface protection, we can incorporate the perimeter lamination around the outer diameter of the coil (and other configurations depending on the need). It is also possible the laminating to be carried out on the inner diameter of the reel, protecting the product both on the outside and on the inside.
At a sector level, these solutions are used to reduce exposure to dust / oxidation and damage during handling.
Automatic strip cutting (when manual strapping is used)
If in your plant the strapping is performed manually and you want to increase speed and repeatability, an automatic strap cutter allows to program lengths and quantities from a touch screen and prepare straps for multiple lines. It cuts steel or polyester strap in widths of 16 – 32mm and thicknesses of 0.4 – 1.30mm (depending on configuration).

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the circunferential strapping and radial on coils?
The circumferential strap wraps around the outside of the coil; the radial strap passes through the inner diameter (coil eye). In many cases, they are combined for maximum stability.
Can we strap coil with steel or PET on the same line?
Yes, we size the station according to the required strap (steel or polyester) and typical application widths.
What information do you need to quote a packaging line of coils?
Minimum and maximum of the coil, weight, maximum temperature, productivity, transport position (vertical / horizontal eye), type of strapping / sealing, available space and know how the packaging is to be carried out.
Does the “vertical eye” or “horizontal eye” position affect the design?
Yes, determines the transport, the strapping station and the turning / positioning requirements.
Can we integrate weighing and have the weight appear on the label?
Yes, weighing can be integrated into diferent equipments and the data can be sent to labelling for printing.
When does it make sense to incorporate a tamping device in cutting lines?
When you need to secure the strap ends on a rotating turret before performing circumferential strapping, with synchronized movements to ensure secure fastening prior to the process.
Can we add plastic wrapping / packaging as part of the packaging?
Yes, perimeter and radial plastic sheathing (and other configurations as needed) can be incorporated to protect the product.
If we do manual strapping, can we automate the cutting of the strap?
Yes, an automatic cutter prepares custom-made strapping (lengths / quantities and cuts steel or polyester strapping in different widths and thicknesses as specified.
Are the lines adaptable to different conveyors or transport systems?
Yes, we integrate conveyers or transport carts synchronized with other stations, adapting the line and its configuration to the product.
Do you offer after-sales Support and spare parts?
Yes, we provide Technical Support and spare parts, including Maintenance of the line to keep it operational 24/7.
