Steel strapping heads
A steel strapping head is the assembly that performs the key cycle of the strapping process: feeding & collection of the strap, tensioning, cutting and sealing thus ensuring that the strapped product is stable.
In a production process, the strapping head is crucial for achieving repeatable strapping, reducing incidents, streamlining the process, minimizing labor and maintaining production with consistent performance.
Our SAIZAR heads for steel strap (16–32 mm)
At SAIZAR, we work with an exclusive strapping head model that allows products to be strapped with steel strapping from 16 mm to 32 mm wide. In order to work with different strapping widths, it is necessary to replace a few parts of the strapping head.
Our strapping heads are hydraulic, offering greater efficiency, robustness and safety in the strapping tensioning, feeding and sealing process. The tensioning force to be applied and even the strapping movement speeds can be adjusted via the HMI depending on the type of product to be strapped.
The strapping heads can work with steel strapping from any strapping supplier, provided that certain technical requirements of the strapping are met in order to guarantee the correct operation of the strapping head.
In-house design and manufacturing
We design, manufacture and test the strapping heads entirely at our facilities, which allows us to adapt the solution to the actual process and working conditions of each customer.
Sealing systems available (notch, linker, TIG welding points)
We can work with all sealing systems available on the market, selecting the most suitable one for your application.
These are the different sealing systems available on the market that SAIZAR can supply:
- Sealed by notching
Sealing is performed directly on the strapping itself, without the need for any consumables. This sealing system can apply different notches to the strapping, with the notches becoming deeper as they progress. Depending on the type of application, a total of 3 notches, 4 notches, 3+1 notches and up to 5 notches can be applied. - Sealed with a stapler (metal staple)
In this case, in order to seal the strap, the head must automatically insert a connector into the strapping position. The connector is usually of the open type and adapted to the width of the strap to be used. The strapping head has a storage compartment that can hold up to 250 connectors. - Sealed by welding points
Sealing can be carried out using different TIG welding points, depending on the application and size of the strap, with between one and four welding points being used. This requires welding machines and argon cylinders, which are used for this type of application.
Intelligent system: strap position control
Our strapping heads include an intelligent strapping system: we know the position of the strap at all times and can automatically correct any misalignment during the strapping process. In other words, if any anomalies occur during the strap feeding and collection process, the strapping head detects them and attempts to resolve the problem automatically without the need for operator intervention.
Typical applications and working environments
The strapping heads for steel strap are used when is needed high mechanical requirements and product stability, depending on the volume and weight of the product to be strapped.
The environment is also important. The sector offers heads designed to work in both “clean” conditions and harsher environments (humidity, temperature, environmental corrosion), always with a design focused on the robustness and maintainability of the equipment.

Integration into Automatic Strapping Machines and Packaging Lines
We integrate the head into an Automatic Strapping Machine or packaging line, together with a strap dispenser, strap accumulator, metal structure, head movement system, strap arch & guides, protective covers, and equipment automation.
In automatic strapping projects, it is common to work with widths such as 16/19/25/32 mm, depending on the application and the different customer requirements.
Service, spare parts and technical support
If you need operational continuity, after-sales technical support matters: in addition to during the project, we accompany you with technical service and spare parts supply, to maintain system performance over time.
Frequently asked questions
What range of strapping does your steel head support?
We work with steel strapping ranging from 16 mm to 32 mm in width. The most common sizes are 16 mm, 19 mm, 25 mm, and 32 mm.
What does it mean for the head to be “Intelligent”?
We control the position of the strap and can automatically correct misalignment or abnormal situations during the strapping process.
What types of seals can be used on steel strapping?
Depending on the application, the notch sealing system is used (sealess), with a fastener (metal staple) or y TIG welding points.
When is it appropriate to use a notching sealing system, with a fastener or with TIG weld spots?
The choice depends on the type of product, working conditions, subsequent maintenance, product handling, and the format and dimensions of the product. For round formats with a diameter of less than 800 mm or flat surfaces less than 150 mm, the sealing system with a binder must be used. For all other applications, the sealing system with a linker can also be used, as well as sealing systems with notches or TIG welding points. This depends on various factors that must be taken into account by the manufacturer and the customer in order to determine the most suitable solution for the application.
What are the advantages of sealing?
Sealing is performed without any consumables. It is the fastest sealing process and requires the least maintenance of all the different sealing systems on the market.
Does the plant environment affect the choice of head?
Yes, in environments with humidity/corrosion/temperature, a design focused on robustness and maintainability is key.
Can I integrate the head into a complete packaging line?
Yes, the strapping head is the core of the strapping system and is integrated with a strap dispenser, strap accumulator, metal structure, head movement system, strap arch & guides, guards, and equipment automation inside automatic strapping machines or packaging lines.
What information do you need to recommend the right solution for me?
Product (type and dimensions), width of the strap, type of strapping required for the product, type of sealing desired, cadence, and conditions for integration into your machine/line.
Does the type of product to be strapped affect the choice of head?
Yes, depending on the product to be strapped, its dimensions and weight, as well as its subsequent handling and storage, will influence the choice of sealing type to be used.
