Graphite electrode bundles

At SAIZAR, we develop packaging lines for graphite electrode bundles as part of our range of packaging lines and solutions for the graphite industry. The aim is to automate the end-of-line process so that the bundle emerges strapped, packaged and ready for dispatch, using the layout that best suits your plant.

This type of solution is ideal when you need to ensure consistent strapping, minimise manual handling and tailor the system to the actual product, the available space and the target productivity. In our proposal of automatic lines, we work specifically with these parameters: product, weight, dimensions, productivity, available space and the type of packaging required.  

How we set up your production line at SAIZAR

We design each production line to order, tailoring the project to the specific needs and circumstances of each client. Within our product range, we include different pieces of equipment within a single production line, from transport and handling to forming, automatic strapping, weighing, labelling, packaging and other auxiliary equipments.

Mobile package or mobile strapping machine

For electrode bundles, we can propose two working configurations. The first involves moving the electrodes to each strapping position. The second involves keeping the bundle in a fixed position and moving the strapping machine laterally to each of the strapping positions. Depending on the customer’s requirements and the space available, we can opt for either of the two options.

Steel or polyester strap depending on the application

Each strapping operation can be carried out using either steel or polyester strap, and in our automatic solutions for electrodes we work with strap widths of 16, 19, 25 or 32 mm, depending on the product and the packaging requirements. Furthermore, the strapping head can be designed with vertical or horizontal movement to suit the specific requirements of the project.

Common equipments on an electrode packaging line

Transport and transfer between stations

The line can incorporate various types of transport equipment, such as trolleys, roller conveyors, chain conveyors and lifting systems, depending on your plant’s production requirements. This allows us to design a line that fits in with your layout and the actual production flow.

Forming and positioning

If the process requires it, we can integrate a forming system into the automatic line. This equipment helps to better prepare the package before the strapping & packaging process and to maintain a more stable geometry throughout the cycle. In the initial phase of the project, we determine how the product arrives at the line, as this affects the positioning and the overall design of the line.

Automatic strapping

SAIZAR can design the line so that the strapping machine performs transversal or even longitudinal strapping of the electrode bundles. On this basis, we configure the line so that the strapping cycle is repeatable and adapts to the working method chosen by the customer. Furthermore, depending on the customer’s requirements, we can adapt the strapping to use either steel or polyester strap, carrying out both types of strap at the same station, which provides operational flexibility and cost savings by allowing the use of two types of strap in the same installation.

Protective pads, wooden blocks and other elements

As part of an automated line, we can also supply a system for inserting protective pads, as well as the option to insert wooden blocks alongside the strapping itself, in addition to other auxiliary components. This enables the package to be prepared not only for strapping, but also for handling and dispatch.

Weighing and labelling

If you require traceability, the line can be fitted with an automatic product weighing and labelling system. This equipment forms part of SAIZAR’s automatic packaging line and can be integrated according to the project’s requirements.

What we need to prepare a proposal for you

To define the line accurately, we usually need the following information:

Product to be strapped and its weight

Width, height and length:
minimum and maximum package dimensions

Dimensions of the material itself:
minimum and maximum diameter depending on the format

Number of electrodes per package

How the product arrives at the packing station:
and how it is intended to be removed from it

Equipment to integrate into the line:
conveyors, lifting, forming, strapping machine, weighing, labelling, insertion of wooden blocks, insertion of protectors

Target productivity in products per hour and available space for the installation

It is also very helpful for us to have a photo of the space where the installation is going to take place or a floor plan of it, as well as an image of the packaged product, as this allows us to refine the technical proposal from the outset.

Technical Support and spare parts

In addition to design and integration, we offer technical support for maintenance and the supply of spare parts. This is a crucial aspect of the project when the line forms a direct part of the end of line process and any downtime affects production or the dispatch of goods.
